SCHIESS AG company, Düsseldorf, was best known for its vertical lathe products, and was the leading supplier of this machine type.
SCHIESS BRIGHTON continues this tradition by offering single column open side machines (
SC-VBM ) with a machining capacity of 25 m (82’) in diameter,
14 m (46’) in height, and a load capacity of again up to 1000 tons.

VBMs Features
-
Tables are driven by multiple high power, high torque digital AC servo-motors coupled directly to the hardened and ground pinions.
-
This arrangement eliminates the traditional gearboxes. Tables can accelerate from zero to the highest speed continuously and steplessly without mechanical gear change.
-
When the machine table operates in the milling mode (C-axis), the motors are coupled in a master-slave relationship, whereby backlash is eliminated between the pinions and the main table drive gear.
